Abbotsford house party turns violent, police looking for suspect

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A young man has serious stab injuries and police are searching for the suspect after a house party in Abbotsford turned violent around late last night.

Constable Ian MacDonald says until police speak to the victim and suspect it’s difficult to determine exactly what happened because most witnesses were fairly drunk. But he says it appears there was a birthday party being held at the home on Clearbrook Road near Melmar Avenue.

“(The people who live there) decided that they’d had enough, and wanted to shut down the party and it was around that time that this dispute took place.”

He says the heated exchange occurred just before midnight and a 22-year-old man was stabbed in the abdomen, back and arm.

“He was losing a fair amount of blood, and I think some pretty quick intervention by one of our members to stop the blood loss and get him medical treatment was pivotal.”

The victim was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

MacDonald says the 30-year-old suspect left the house before police arrived, so he hasn’t been arrested yet.

He says the victim and suspect are known to each other.

“Yeah, I wouldn’t classify them as friends. I think they know some of the same people.”

“But until we can speak to those two, we’re going on the information from witnesses, again some of them were quite intoxicated.”

MacDonald expects police will track down the suspect, or he’ll turn himself in, today.
