On the defeat

Possession is 50/50 basically in this game.

The game should have been finished at half-time for me. We missed opportunities on the counter attack that are not missable at our level with the final ball.

The second half we should have lost the game in the early part of it by more than once goal. We were destabilised by the goal and they had two or three opportunities that they could have scored.

In the final part of the game we should have come back to 1-1.

Overall it’s mixed feelings because for long periods in the first half, with a bit more quality in our final pass we win this game.

Were you unlucky with the Aubameyang offside in the first half?

I haven’ seen it again. To me it looked that he was level. Is the boot in front or not, I will have to watch on the video.

Harry Kane leaps highest to head home the first goal against Arsenal

On Kane’s goal – was it a foul

I have no complaint. I watched it again, it’s a regular goal – we can only look at ourselves.

Were you disappointed with the amount that the team created?

I believe that we had opportunities, dangerous situations that we didn’t transform into opportunities – That’s where my regret was. In the final ball we missed something.

Overall when you have two or three opportunities like we had in the final part of the game, you have to take your chances. You will not have 10 chances, if you don’t take them you will suffer at the end of the day.

To be at the level mentally you have to be able to use your opportunities, that’s what the top level is about.

Known said they lacked hunger to defend – Would you agree with that?

No, I don’t think they lack hunger to defend. They were caught by a super striker, who is one of the best in the world. He scores against everybody, so all the defenders who play against him lack hunger then.

On the top four race

It was a game we couldn’t afford to lose. it makes it much more difficult now, but we have to fight until as long as we have a mathematical chance.

Arsene Wenger gestures from the touchline at Wembley.

There was more at stake than just the derby, I said that before the game, that’s why it’s so disappointing to lose the way we lost it.

On the away form

It’s very poor. I believe as well once they scored that played a part.

Football is about scoring goals. You can say we are not strong enough defending our goal, but you look at the numbers and compare them to the top six, we don’t score enough goals away from home.

These two weaknesses are linked.

On prioritising the Europa League

It’s too early. Football is not about switching off for three games and switch it on for one. Manchester United decided that once they were in the semi-final, we are far from the semi-final. I think we have to fight to have a chance to come back.

For me it’s a very disappointing result. The priority has to be to be in the Champions League through the Premier League. I’m not a great fan of qualifying for the Europa League through the Champions League.

If it’s an opportunity we have to try and take it as well, but the priority is still the Premier League.
