MIAMI COUNTY, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) – Local police, sheriff’s deputies and U.S. Marshals officers got an early start in Miami County on Friday, checking up on registered sex offenders.
Authorities started their sweep around 6:00 a.m. on Friday, October 27. The Miami County Sheriff says they know of 146 registered sex offenders in the county and during the sweep today, officers were able to verify 108 of their addresses. In Ohio, sex offenders are required to report their address to the sheriff’s office. For the past six years in Miami County, authorities have been doing a sweep to make sure offenders are living where they say they area.
Ahead of today’s sweep, the sheriff’s office said it has been getting tips that some offenders weren’t living at their reported addresses. During today’s sweep, Miami County Sheriff Dave Duchak reports that three sex offenders were found to be potentially out of compliance. One arrest was made for a man who had two outstanding warrants. Duchak said the man has been given extra charges for drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.
The sheriff’s office says the addresses that weren’t verified today will be randomly checked to make sure the offenders are complying with their listed address.
