Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu admitted earlier today that the club would have to decide which league to play in if Catalonia gained independence from Spain.
The Catalan giants played behind closed doors at the Nou Camp yesterday, beating Las Palmas 3-0, after Spain used force to prevent voters taking part in a banned independence referendum.
There has been talk of Barca potentially joining Arsenal in the Premier League – but Wenger doubts it’ll ever happen.
And while Wenger admits it’d be an interesting prospect, the Gunners manager believes the likes of Scottish clubs Celtic and Rangers should be invited first.
“I’d try to learn Catalan!” Wenger said on the possibility of Barca joining the Premier League.
“If Barcelona want to join the Premier League, it makes things even more difficult for everybody. But I don’t think they have gotten as far as that.
“It is interesting and there will be incidents on the sporting side as Barcelona are a highly political club.
“I think it will be interesting to see how they respond in the championship.
“We have enough clubs here with 20 but if you want to go up to 24, we have to invite the Scottish clubs before we go for the Spanish.”
