A TEENAGER has been charged with one count of animal cruelty after a video she took of herself kicking a puppy went viral on Facebook.
The Morning Bulletin reports a Queensland Police Service spokesman said a 17-year-old female from Koongal, in Rockhampton, was charged in relation to the matter and is due to appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Monday.
The video was posted on Facebook by the dog’s owner about 7.30pm on Saturday. It was viewed tens of thousands of times and shared across a number of networks, including with the local Rockhampton and Gracemere Crime Watch and Public Announcements Facebook page. That page told its followers the video had been reported to the RSPCA.
“People in Perth contacted this page about this. That is how far it reached in a short time,” the administrator of the page said.
In the video a woman was heard to say “Your dog’s dead Rylee”, before she kicked the animal multiple times as it was lying on the floor beneath the bed.
The dog later cowers in the corner of a room where the female kicks it again and says into the phone “How do you like that Rylee?”.
In the last snippet of the video, the woman turns the camera around onto her own face.
