Antonio Conte has fired a dig at Chelsea’s English rivals in the Champions League by claiming that they have had it easy in the group stages.
Chelsea were forced to settle for second place in Group C after they were held at home to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday evening, while Roma beat FK Qarabag to secure top spot.
Manchester United, meanwhile, sealed a 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow to top their group.
Manchester City and Tottenham are guaranteed to finish top of their group ahead of Wednesday night’s fixtures, while Liverpool will be in the same situation if they beat Spartak Moscow in their final game.
But Conte believes Chelsea’s rivals have had to navigate through easier groups.
‘To go with five English teams into the next round, that means the level of the league is very high,’ said the Chelsea boss.
‘There are also really good coaches, and this Champions League is showing this.
‘It was not simple, but easy for a lot of these teams to go into the next round.’
