A man and woman were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide at a Gilbert home Monday, police said.
Officers were conducting a welfare check at a home near Warner and Cooper roads on Monday when they came across the bodies of 55-year-old James Gibson and 41-year-old Rosa Rubio, said Gilbert police Sgt. Darrell Krueger.
Krueger said police responded to the home after a caller told police Gibson wasn’t where he was supposed to be.
Krueger said upon arrival at the house, officers initially suspected that “at least one person was dead inside the house,” and later discovered two bodies were inside with apparent gunshot wounds.
The investigation so far has indicated that Gibson was the homeowner and was dating Rubio, Krueger said Tuesday.
Investigators believe Gibson shot Rubio, but a motive was not immediately clear, he said.
Krueger said it will take some time for the investigation to determine the exact causes of death and a possible motive.
