Kuala Lumpur has been chosen as the first city in the region to be the destination for Asia Music City (AMC), to be located in Quill City Mall, Kuala Lumpur.

Touted as Asia’s first integrated lifestyle hub dedicated to music, sound, lighting and video lovers, AMC is set to be a one-stop centre combining retail and entertainment under one roof.

At the unveiling event, Asia Music City managing director Philip Seah said Quill City Mall was chosen for its location and capacity to include certain key features.

“Today, we unveil Asia’s first music-based independent lifestyle hub. Our goal is to make KL a shopping haven for all music-related products and services.

“It is the largest mall in Malaysia dedicated to music, retail, showroom, workshop, event space, entertainment products and services, all under one roof,” he said, adding that they planned to have AMC in other Asian cities such as Bangkok as well.

AMC will be located on five different levels and already 80% completed, covering approximately 1,858sq m.

“We are glad that Asia Music City selected us as their partner as there is only one in each country,” Quill City Mall centre manager Alan Cheong said.

Asia Music City will also feature a ballroom.

Judging from the traffic generated during the Jacky Cheung ticket launch, Cheong is positive that such events will draw even more mall-goers.

AMC will also be a concert and event venue, and will feature facilities such as a dedicated loading bay, megastar lounge for superstars and VVIPs, backstage cafe as well as a solo stage open to the public and local performances.

Quill City Mall promises ample parking and it is also linked to the monorail.

Upon completion, the first event to be held will be the SLV Symposium 2018.

This year’s line-up includes Japan Music Festival 2018, Anime Festival Asia 2018, and Sundown Music Festival 2018 as well as four events by Star Planet, two by MM2 Asia, two by KRU Studios and six by Ticket Charge.

The Quill Convention Centre on Level 6 offers two event halls which, together, can accommodate 1,800 guests, making it suitable for concerts, banquet, fashion shows, exhibitions, product launches and corporate events.

There will be six furnished seminar rooms, with a capacity of 50 to 250 guests.

The retail hub on Level 5 is touted to be the largest showcase of music, sound, lighting and video products in Asia.

For starters, it will boast a large collection of guitars, pianos, drums, keyboards, DJ equipment and accessories, as well as vintage musical instruments.

Another interesting feature is the Superstar Radio Station with a conceptual open-view design, where celebrity interviews will be held.

AMC will also introduce Malaysia’s first joint ticketing station, with partners Sports Hub Tix, Sistic and Ticket Charge.

Star Planet chief operating officer Carmen Liew said the location of the ticketing counter was chosen for its accessibility and ideal size for medium to large-scale events.

“As it is a mall, there are many things for patrons to do while waiting for an event to start,” she said.

While she was tight-lipped about the upcoming artistes who will perform or have fan-meets at AMC, she said fans could expect performers from Taiwan and Hong Kong.

For those who want to jam or record a music album, AMC has a studio hub with a recording studio and six rehearsal studios.

Managed by BMC Music Group which has 35 years in the music rehearsal and instrument rental industry, the studio is equipped with recording equipment for live webcasting and TV show.

BMC spokesman Bernard Teo said, “We have vast experience in the industry and being a part of AMC is a milestone.”

There will also be a Entertainment Industry Professional Technological Training Hub.

Phase 1, which includes a convention centre, studio hub, radio station and ticketing station, is scheduled to be completed this April while Phase 2, the retail hub, by August.
