CAN’T get romance right for love nor money? Then let Sun Savers help.
This week is our Cheap Dates Week — when we reveal the savviest cash-saving advice for treating your loved at a reduced rate.
Recent research found a single date costs on average £127 — so that singletons are pumping £5.89billion into the economy every year.
But Lorraine Adams, at dating website Lovestruck.com, reckons you can still date stylishly on a budget.
She says: “J-Lo said, ‘Love don’t cost a thing’ — and she’s right. A good date is about getting to know the person, not flashy surroundings.
“And if you’re strapped for cash, it makes sense to spend less so you can see your new love more quickly again.”
Here, we team up with Lorraine to show you how to date well on the cheap:
- Go on a breakfast date. It’s usually under £10 per person, even in the poshest restaurants. If it goes well, you can see your date again in the evening.
- Visit a free museum or gallery. These are always romantic venues and you can have fun spotting each other’s doppelgängers in the portraits or statues.
- Take a picnic to a local park or beauty spot. Al fresco romance is always exciting.
- Take a free taster class. Local venues often run courses such as salsa-dancing or cocktail-making. A group activity takes the pressure off facing each other and, if it goes well, you can go out afterwards.
- Look for vouchers and deals. This is not being cheap, it is being clever with your cash and that is an attractive trait.
- Set your date a fun challenge. Try a crazy-golf competition or hunt for treasures at a car boot sale — followed by coffee or cocktails.
KISS goodbye to the £16.50 MAC Velvet Teddy lipstick and slick on the £4 George at Asda Cloud 9 Matte instead.
MARGARET JELLEY from Newcastle says: “Making homemade burgers? Make the meat go further by adding a third dry porridge oats to lean mince, onions and stock cubes.”
- Send your tips to firstname.lastname@example.org and you will get 28 codes worth £5 if your tip is used. Include your name and town.
