Another wicket:

Mujeeb strikes in the 23rd over to cut short Andy Balbirnie’s stay, trapping him in front for 4. Ireland are 120 for 2.

End of opening stand:

William Porterfield misses a half-century. Attempting to pull Naib, he top-edged the ball to Stanikzai at mid-on to depart for 47, ending the opening stand worth 115.

Fifty for Stirling:

Stirling brings up a 51-ball fifty with a single off Nabi in the 16th over. Ireland reach 100 two overs later to continue the good work. The opening pair has managed to keep Rashid at bay in his opening over. Can they continue in the same vein?

Half-century stand:

The fifty partnership is up in the 11th over – Porterfield greets Dawlat with a boundary to bring up the milestone. He celebrates it with another boundary, his fourth so far. Ireland are scoring at a good rate. Will Rashid Khan be introduced soon to pull things back?

Build-up: Ireland hope to keep series alive

Hello and welcome to the Live Blog of the second ODI between Afghanistan and Ireland in Sharjah. Having clinched the ODI series against Ireland in Noida earlier this year, Afghanistan have extended their dominance over Ireland with a big win on Tuesday, and they will be eager to continue in the same vein and secure their second successive ODI series win against the European nation.

Ireland’s weakness against spin, especially Rashid Khan, was evident during the series in Noida, where the legspinner bagged 16 wickets in five games at an average of 13.37. Two days back, before even Rashid was introduced into the attack, the experienced Ireland batting line-up had no answers to the guiles of Mujeeb Zadran, the 16-year-old offspinner, who bagged a four-wicket haul on debut. Rashid then continued his love affair with Ireland, picking up three wickets to fast-track their collapse.

Can Ireland come up with an improved showing in the second ODI and keep the series alive? While you ponder over that, here’s a look at the preview.
