A Knoxville man arrested last year after attempting to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex has been sentenced to five years in prison, police said.
Knox County Criminal Court Judge Steve Sword handed down the sentence against Shane Courtney McCosh on Thursday, according to a Knoxville Police Department news release. McCosh pleaded guilty to one count of solicitation of a minor-aggravated statutory rape, a Class E felony, in May.
McCosh was arrested in October 2016 during a sting operation by KPD’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
He was nabbed in Caswell Park in East Knoxville, where he went to meet an underage girl who he thought he had been messaging online. The girl actually was an undercover KPD officer.
During a subsequent interview with ICAC investigators, McCosh admitted to having had a sexual relationship with an underage girl five years prior, the release states. Police are still working to identify the victim.
After his release from prison, McCosh will be required to register as a sex offender with the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry.
