What’s the story?

The WWE has now confirmed that the semi-final matches in the United States Championship Tournament will take place on the upcoming episode of SmackDown Live.

Additionally, WWE has also announced a 6-Woman Tag Team Match for the show this coming Tuesday night.

In case you didn’t know…

The WWE’s SmackDown brand is currently featuring a storyline wherein Dolph Ziggler is miffed with the way management has been treating him, owing to which he vacated the United States title shortly after capturing it at Clash Of Champions in December of last year.

Following which, the WWE announced a tournament so as to determine a champion for the vacant US title.

The heart of the matter

With the final four contenders in the United States Championship Tournament being Bobby Roode, Mojo Rawley, Xavier Woods and Jinder Mahal; fans have been speculating as to when the semi-finals would transpire.

The WWE has now announced Bobby Roode vs. Mojo Rawley and Jinder Mahal vs. Xavier Woods for the upcoming episode of SmackDown Live.

Furthermore, WWE has also revealed that a 6-Woman Tag Team Match shall take place on the show, as SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair teams up with Naomi & Becky Lynch in order to compete against The Riott Squad (Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan).

What’s next?

The next episode of SmackDown Live will air from the Laredo Energy Center in Laredo, Texas on January 16th.

The winners of the two respective semi-final matchups in the US Title Tournament will meet in the finals for the US Championship; with the match taking place at the Royal Rumble PPV event on January 28th.

Author’s take

Honestly speaking, while the 6-Woman matchup is good, all eyes would be on the US title matchups, as the prestigious belt hangs in the balance.

The WWE has done a commendable job thus far with the slow-burning storyline featuring Dolph Ziggler’s rebellion against the powers-that-be. This week’s SmackDown truly does seem like a must-watch edition.
