Kevin Gamerio’s second-half strike was enough to hand Atletico Madrid a 1-0 win over Eibarm, in a LaLiga encounter on Saturday evening.
Atletico should have broken the deadlock after 11 minutes, but Koke fired inches wide with a first-time effort from close range.
The deadlock eventually broken in the 27th minute, as Antoine Griezmann unselfishly teed up Kevin Gameiro, who sent a cool finish past Dimitrovic to Atletico the lead.
The hosts nearly hit back two minutes, but Charles failed to keep his close-range header on target.
Diego Simeone’s charges continued to dominate in the first half, but they were unable to fathom another chance and went into the break leading by the lone goal.
The second half got off to a quiet start, which prompted Diego Simeone to introduce Yannick Carrasco for Angel Correa in the 56th minute.
Eibar nearly leveled matters in the 64th minute, but Jan Oblak produced a superb save at his near post to deny Hernandez.
Surprisingly, the home side upped the pressure as the half went and they nearly leveled matters in the 86th minute, only for Oblak to deny Takashi Inui from close range.
Atletico managed to see off a late surge from Eibar to claim a hard-fought victory on the road.
