The department says practicing good hygiene is also essential, by properly and frequently washing your hands and avoiding touching your face. They also recommend making it a habit to clean and disinfect commonly used areas in your home, school, or office.

If you do begin to experience flu-like symptoms, stay home and call your doctor right away. The DOH-Duval says flu treatment is most effective when started within 48 hours, especially if you or a loved one is at a higher risk for complications. That group includes children younger than 5-years-old, adults over 65, pregnant women, and anyone with underlying medical conditions.
