The Healthy 10: Slow Roll in South Buffalo, health fairs, gentle yoga this week

Crucial Catch Day: Several Buffalo Bills alumni will participate in a health fair from noon to 3 p.m. in the second-floor cafeteria at Erie County Medical Center, 462 Grider St., in an effort to encourage the public to catch cancer early. Free cancer and other health screenings will be provided, along with information about all types of cancer, and health and wellness tips. The screening initiative will be made possible through the NFL, Bills Alumni Foundation and ECMC.

Slow Roll Buffalo: Gather starting at 5:30 p.m., roll at 6 p.m., Buffalo Irish Center 245 Abbott Road, South Buffalo. Roughly 10-mile guided ride for all ages and abilities. First-time riders should register at Free.

Breast cancer support: 6 p.m., HSBC Community Room, The Heart Center of Niagara, 571 10th St., Niagara Falls; also 10 a.m. next Saturday, Southtowns Radiation Oncology, 550 Orchard Park Road, Suite A100, West Seneca.

Coping with fear when cancer runs in the family


Holistic Health Series: “An Intro to Human Design,” touching on astrology, quantum physics, the Kabbalah and the Chakra system, 7 p.m., Amherst Public Library, 350 John James Audubon Parkway, Amherst. Flu shot clinic: For those 18 and older, 3 to 8 p.m., Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center Golisano Center for Community Health, 533 10th St. Quadrivalent and high-dose influenza vaccines will be available along with two types of pneumonia vaccine. Patients with health insurance, including Medicare, should be prepared to present their insurance cards. No copay will be required. Those without insurance will be charged $25 for the quadrivalent influenza vaccine. Other vaccines will be available for a separate fee.


Mental health forum: Catherine Collins – who sits on the State Board of Regents, holds a doctorate in education administration from the University at Buffalo, and hosts the biweekly Women’s Health Show on WWWS-1400 AM – will lead a mental health forum, “Discussing Service and Addressing Needs,” from 10 a.m. to noon in Mount Olive Baptist Church, 701 E. Delavan Ave. The program is free and open to the public. Panelists will include Kevin Smith, deputy commissioner of the state Education Department; Dr. Jeffery Grace, a Buffalo psychiatrist; Dr. Michael Cummings, executive director of behavioral health at Erie County Medical Center; Jessica Pirro, CEO of Crisis Services; and Stacy Lewis-Beaufort, a Buffalo City Police lieutenant.
