TUCSON- Thursday is set to be the start of heavy holiday travel, according to an official with the Tucson International Airport.
Jessie Butler, Public Information Manager with the Tucson International Airport, said Dec. 21 through Dec. 23 are busy travel days.
“The 26th through the 29th are also busy travel days. Of course the New Year … and the 2nd is another really busy day for travel,” she said.
She said 13,000 more travelers a day, will go through TUS, than usual.
She suggested travelers arrive to the airport 90 minutes early.
Butler said TSA recommends packed presents fly unwrapped.
“In the case that they can’t see what it is through the X-Ray scanner, they don’t have to open up your gift,” she said. “If you can, just wait to wrap it until you get to your final destination.”
She said travelers should be mindful of TSA rules.
“If you’re not in TSA pre-check, you do have to take out any electronics larger than cellphone.”
Butler said the airport is adding nonstop flights to Minneapolis.
Sun Country Airlines will run seasonal flights, during Winter, three-times-a-week.
She said the inaugural flights were completely booked.
