Warning of plunging temperatures as snow heads for Wirral

FORECASTERS have issued a weather warning for snow and ice across Wirral on Friday.

Snow showers are expected to cross the North West between 12am to 6pm on Saturday, December 9.

It is expected that 2 to 5cm of snow will fall with 10 to 20cm possible over high ground.

Icy surfaces will be a likely hazard especially as temperatures drop overnight.

Commuters are being warned that roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and for train services.

It is likely that there will be some icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

Pedestrians are being warned of possible injuries from slips and falls on icy and snowy surfaces.

The chief forecaster said: “During winter weather which brings snow showers, it is not uncommon for snow amounts to vary considerably across short distances.

“On Friday and Saturday, the snow showers could lead to snow accumulations which vary markedly across the warning area.”
