MIAMI VALLEY, Ohio (WRGT/WKEF) – March is bringing yet another winter storm. AAA has got drivers covered and is offering tips on how to stay safe when driving in the ice and snow.
FOX 45/ABC 22 Meteorologist Mike Joyce says the snowfall from Sunday will freeze overnight causing slippery road conditions. AAA says to use caution when driving on ice and allow plenty of room between you and the cars around you.
Follow these safety tips when driving in winter weather:
- Remove all snow from vehicle
- Slow Down
- Do not tailgate
- Never use cruise control on slippery roads
- Avoid unnecessary lane changes
- Minimize the need to brake on ice
“AAA urges motorists to use the calm before the storm today to prepare their vehicles by filling up their gas tanks and packing a vehicle emergency kit,” said Kara Hitchens, AAA spokeswoman.
AAA advises that you always carry a emergency kit in your car. Inside the kit, drivers should have a shovel, pack a blanket, carry snacks and water, and a heavy coat. AAA also says to make sure your cell phone is fully charged and that you keep at least a half tank of gas in your car.
“No one ever plans to get stuck. Preparation can make all the difference.” said Hitchens.
