After 17 years of walking in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, you’d think that gearing up for number eighteen would be a piece of cake. But even Adriana Lima, veritable queen of the world’s most over-the-top runway show, claims that she still gets the pre-show jitters. “I get super nervous every single time,” she said on Tuesday afternoon. One way to calm those pre-lingerie nerves? Working out, of course. Still nearly two months out from the show, which will be held in Shanghai this year and filmed at the end of November, Lima was already in full prep mode this week, holding court at the model-beloved gym Dogpound. “I’m based in Miami, but when I’m in New York, I come here all the time,” she said. “I love it when I want to focus on certain body parts. I do a lot of abs, legs, and gluts here.” Here, Lima shares more of her workout tips, including how to exercise on the go, what music gets her going, and how to work out with kids in tow.
What is the hardest workout class that you’ve ever tried?
Everything is kind of hard. It’s not easy! It’s a workout. The name says it all. Jumping rope was the toughest for me to learn, because it takes a lot of practice and you need to keep the routine constant. It is an everyday practice.
Are there any workouts that you really don’t enjoy?
I don’t like cycling. I like to move around; I don’t like to be in one station.
Right now, what does your workout routine look like?
Boxing, cardio, and Dogpound. I try to workout six times a week, especially with the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show coming up. When I workout depends where I am. If I’m home in Miami, I usually go after I drop the children off at school.
Do they ever want to workout with you?
Sometimes, yes! I bring them to the gym, and they just follow me. My trainers are really great with children, so they guide them through it. Jumping rope is their favorite thing.
Do you listen to music when you workout?
Of course, that is so important. My playlist is always the same. I have one song that is my favorite for the last three years: Eminem’s “‘Til I Collapse.” That’s my inspiration. It’s the lyrics that make you want to give it your all and challenge yourself.
What do you always have with you when you go to do a workout?
I have boxing gloves, and my jump rope, which I bring everywhere. For clothes, I love a great sports bra, which is so important. You want to make sure you have the right support. Then leggings, always, especially when you are jumping rope. I probably have around twenty pairs right now, because I just changed out my collection.
When you are traveling, how do you fit in exercise?
You can always bring a jump rope, because it is so light and easy to carry. You can jog outside, and with your phone, you can download different applications to guide you.
We’re still two months away from the show, but how are you feeling?
I’m so excited. I can’t wait. Right now, the nerves are striking. I get super nervous every single time. It’s unbelievable to be going to China. It’s going to be one of the biggest shows ever. It’s insane. I actually just came from there. It’s so wonderful. There is such a traditional culture there, and I love their medicine culture, which is a really natural approach.
Do you have any natural wellness tips that you swear by?
I’m very natural. The only vitamin that I take is Vitamin C in the morning… I’m never sick.
