VIDEO: Bear forced to hand match ball to referee in Russia ahead of World Cup
The bear was brought along to a Russian Professional Football League match

Shocking footage has emerged from Russia showing a bear being made to hand over the match ball before a game in the third division.

This is just the latest in a long line of troubling incidents to occur in Russia ahead of the 2018 World Cup, with less than two months to go until the home nation’s opening clash against Saudi Arabia.

The brown bear was brought to a game between Mashuk-KMV and FC Angusht Nazran and was led onto the edge of the pitch as the teams prepared for kick-off.

Understandably, the ref looked a little nervous as he made his way towards the enormous creature.

Here’s the clip of Tim performing the handover and, yes, that is his real name…

Forced to stand on its hind legs, the bear passed the ball to the referee before appearing to clap along with the home crowd.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the stunt was used by Russian officials as a practice run before the real thing at the opening match at this summer’s World Cup.

Can you not, Russia?
