Boy, 7, electrocuted outside pub while ‘trying to retrieve football’

A young schoolboy who died at a pub while trying to retrieve a football was electrocuted, say police.

Harvey Tyrrell, aged seven, was killed while playing at the King Harold pub in Romford, east London, on September 11 last year.

Met police have interviewed two people in their 70s under caution.

Police and paramedics were called to the pub at 5.20pm that day after Harvey, from Harold Wood, was reported to have fallen from a wall and suffered serious injuries.

The youngster was found unresponsive when the emergency services arrived and he was rushed to an east London hospital, where he was pronounced dead a little over an hour later.

At the time, witnesses said Harvey had climbed over a wall to retrieve a ball but stumbled and hit his head.

Police have continued to investigate the death and now six months on have released an update on Harvey’s cause of death.

A special post-mortem found that the body was electrocuted, the force said on Monday.

Two people have been interviewed under caution.

A 70-year-old man was interviewed under caution on September 12, the day after Harvey died.

A 72-year-old man was interviewed under caution on January 11.

A file has been sent to the Crown Prosecution Service, and a provisional inquest date has been set for this month.

Harvey was described as a “beautiful, happy and healthy” boy who loved football as people paid tribute to him after his death.

A JustGiving fundraising page stated: “Unfortunately, on the 11th September Harvey had a tragic accident & sadly passed away, leaving his mum, dad and family completely heartbroken.

“The paramedics tried to help resuscitate Harvey for over an hour but he had already been taken by the angels.”

The page raised more than £25,000 for his funeral.
