The Emporia Police Department Benefit Association is helping support Special Olympics athletes in the upcoming games.
The EPD Scramble for Special Olympics golf tournament was Saturday morning at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course. Emporia Police Officer and EPD Benefit Association President Jaffar Agha tells KVOE News how the funds raised from the event support athletes.
Agha says law enforcement has supported Special Olympics since the 1980s to foster better relations with individuals with disabilities. Agha says as tradition, EPD will be helping run the torch this year.
Agha says the event has continued to grow over the years, even with many events going on throughout Emporia the same day.
