Mt. Pleasant, S.C. – This time of year is when more people are flocking to join gyms in hopes of losing weight before the beach days arrive.
If you don’t want to spend the money to join a gym, then get moving from the comfort at home.
Joseph Wade, F45 general manager and fitness instructor, says you don’t need to get fancy with exercises to see results. He says the key is to get moving and to watch your diet.
“If you stay at something for at least three to four times a week, and at least 45 minutes, you will see results in a three month period,” said Wade.
F45 is a fitness center in Mt. Pleasant that provides participants with high intensity interval training and strength training workouts.
“The purpose of HIIT,” Wade says, “is to get your heart rate up and your heart rate back down.”
The up and down of your heart rate combined with periods of rest will help you burn more calories.
Body weight workouts are simple and you can find ways to incorporate them into your everyday life. Some of the exercises you can do include: lunges, push-ups, squats, jump squats, a plank, or high knees. Wade says have fun with it and if you don’t have weights, find things around the house such as school books.
“You can be holding a milk jug in one hand, go down to a squat, then put the milk jug in the other hand, do a lunge,” said Wade, general manager and fitness instructor at F45.
Don’t focus too much on the scale. If you stay consistent with your workout, Wade says you will first see the results in inches and your clothes will fit better.
It’s recommended that you begin by doing three sets, 12 to 15 reps with no more than 60 to 90 seconds of rest in between each workout.
