EAST Hampshire’s sides playing in the FA Cup this season are to receive a bumper pay day – thanks to a new international television deal covering the competition.
The likes of Petersfield Town, Horndean and Alresford Town are unlikely to feature in front of the cameras – unless they reach the first round proper of the world’s most famous cup competition.
But that doesn’t mean they won’t see the benefit of a bumper new £820m television deal which covers the whole of the competition.
It means the Football Association has increased the prize money available in each round, and clubs knocked out at the Extra Preliminary Round stages – the very first round of the FA Cup – will also now receive £750 of prize money.
Winning just one game in the competition will now net clubs £2,250.
In the Extra Preliminary Round, which will be played on August 11, Horndean are at home to Godalming Town, and Alresford Town will travel to Hamble Club. Petersfield Town have been drawn away at Guildford City.
Rewards for victories in this round will see Alresford travel to Salisbury, Horndean will play at Ascot United or Camberley Town, and Petersfield would go to Fleet Town. These ties will be played on August 25.
In the FA Vase First Qualifying Round, Alresford Town will head to Ringwood Town. Petersfield will face Cowes Sports or Westbury in the Second Qualifying Round.
