Former Derby County ace Giles Barnes looks set for a return to the MLS.
Barnes has been playing for Mexican club Leon but is closing in on a move to Colorado Rapids, according to reports.
MLSsoccer.com is reporting that the 29-year-old has been ear-marked as a replacement for Joe Mason, who has returned to Wolverhampton Wanderers following a loan spell.
Barnes has made only three appearances since joining Leon in January, all coming in the Copa MX.
He has previously played for three MLS clubs – Houston Dynamo, Vancouver Whitecaps and Orlando City.
Barnes came through the youth ranks at Derby and went on to make 95 senior appearances for the club.
He scored 13 goals and memorably set up the Rams’ winner in the 2006-07 Championship play-off final against West Bromwich Albion at Wembley.
Barnes had spells with West Bromwich Albion and Doncaster Rovers before first moving to the United States in 2012.
