ITV are set to bid to bring the Champions League back to terrestrial TV for the first time since 2015.
The Times are reporting that both ITV and Sky will challenge BT Sport for the rights for Champions League ties, with BT holding total exclusivity for the rights at present.
The viewing figures and exposure for Champions League football have taken a hit since BT gained exclusivity and took games away from terrestrial TV, and UEFA are now open to offers for the rights for broadcasting from 2021-24.
The start time of the early Champions League games will also reportedly be changed, with kick-off at 5:45pm (GMT) instead of 5:55pm (GMT).
Should ITV win the bid, the iconic nights many grew up watching will once again be free to view for a new generation of fans. It’ll also bring back an elite midweek ritual for those who grew up watching UCL games on terrestrial tele.
