Hoboken is ready to host La Liga soccer.

The fourth annual La Liga Promises Soccer Tournament began Friday and will run through Sunday at Hoboken’s Sinatra Park Soccer Field.

The prestigious 7v7 tournament will feature 16 teams in the U-12 age division, seven of which are from La Liga Santander clubs, and nine from international clubs. Teams participating in the tournament include FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla FC, Villarreal CF, Valencia CF, RCD Espanyol, Inter Milan, SL Benfica, FC Porto, Liverpool FC, JEF United, Club America, New York City FC, New York Red Bulls and Ironbound SC.

Matches are set to begin at 9:30 a.m. each day and be played throughout morning hours. All tournament matches played on Field 1 will be broadcast live on Univisión and Televisa as well as on the official La Liga channel on YouTube and on La Liga TV.

The La Liga Promises Soccer Tournament, which is organized by Spain’s top professional soccer league, La Liga, and the José Ramón de la Morena Foundation, will serve as a vehicle to introduce the La Liga Formation Methodology, known as one of the best player development systems in the world, to U.S.-based coaches.

“La Liga has a distinguished presence in the U.S.,” said Juan Florit, the Sports Projects Coordinator at La Liga. “We are excited to show off some of the most talented youth that have learned from La Liga coaching methodologies at this highly regarded tournament.”

The New York Red Bulls defeated JEF United, 2-1, yesterday during the opening day of the tournament.

Bora Turker put the Red Bulls up 1-0. Then, JEF United’s Chiba Hiroki scored his team’s first and only goal. Red Bulls’ Lenny Aviles from Monroe Township scored the second goal and put his side up for good.

On Saturday, the Red Bulls will take on Real Madrid at 10:30 a.m.

Fans are invited to enjoy the tournament and support their favorite team. All fans will be admitted free of charge. The tournament final will be televised.
