LaLiga French forward will leave Atletico this summer
Atletico Madrid can expect a windfall of just under 100 million euros once a payment to Real Sociedad has been factored in, with Antoine Griezmann leaving the club this summer.
Yet a close personal friend, Diego Ifran, has explained that whilst the forward is a joker, he is very serious on the pitch.
Barcelona are expected to complete the signing of the Macon-born goalscorer, although Paris Saint-Germain have been rumoured to be watching the situation develop.
“Griezmann is a laugh, but always off the field. On the pitch there is a very serious person,” Ifran explained in an interview with Radio MARCA.
“What you see of Griezmann is what he is, a healthy and hardworking person.
“Griezmann is a fantastic teammate, and at Barcelona they play a total team game, there isn’t room for any selfishness.”
When pressed on just why the former Real Sociedad star has opted to leave the Spanish capital, Ifran believes the changing dynamic of the team around him may have contributed.
“Diego [Godin], is the godfather of Griezmann‘s daughter, his departure may have influenced him,” he added.
“However, I think he was already thinking about it.”
Whether or not Los Rojiblancos replace the French international remains to be seen, especially with Diego Costa and Alvaro Morata already at the club.
There is also the pressing need for Simeone and co to rebuild the defensive line this summer, with it decimated by departures.
One name who has been linked with a summer move to the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano is Edinson Cavani, with contract negotiations with PSG having made little progress of late.
“He’s [Cavani] a physical machine,” he intimated.
“In Simeone‘s system that’s one of the main things.
“The Argentine transmits the desire he has.”
