Loch Raven High School in Baltimore County went on lockdown after a report that a student brought a gun to school in a backpack, according to county police.
Police said a pellet gun was located on the school campus, and that the student will remain in custody pending charges.
District spokeswoman Diana Spencer confirmed the school is on lockdown and that police are on the scene.
No one was injured and the student in question is in custody, police said.
A school resource officer received a tip Thursday morning that a student was concealing a gun in a backpack, according to a tweet from Baltimore County’s Public Safety. The officer then lost sight of the student, whose identity is known, and the school went on lockdown while police searched the building.
The scare came one day after a 19-year-old student in Florida went on a shooting rampage in his former high school, killing at least 17 people.
