A man has been charged after two people were killed in a car crash at Doonside in Sydney’s west.
Emergency services were called to Crawford Road about 10pm, after a Nissan Pulsar and a Toyota Hilux collided at the intersection of Coveny Street.
Carmen Sant, 81, a passenger in the Hilux, was trapped and died at the scene. The 83-year-old driver, her husband Frank Sant, was critically injured and died in Westmead Hospital this afternoon.
The 22-year-old man driving the Pulsar, Harjinder Singh, was arrested and underwent mandatory testing.
He was charged with two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death, along with a number of other driving charges.
Mr Singh, an Indian national with an international driver’s license, was refused bail and will face court tomorrow.
Locals say it’s the second fatal accident at the intersection in two years, and they’ve been petitioning to make it safer.
Blacktown Council has acknowledged this speeding hot spot needs a roundabout but has told residents it doesn’t have the funding to build it.
