News And Notes After Seth Rollins And Braun Strowman Win Tag Team Titles

Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman won tag team gold Monday night on Raw.

WWE Raw saw inevitable rivals Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman capture the Raw Tag Team Championships against The OC in the main event, however the broadcast came and went with no announcement about NXT’s heavily rumored move to the USA Network.

WWE Raw saw a sizable bounce last week as viewership continues to rally across both flagships. This rally might not last much longer as the return of Monday Night Football is weeks away with ESPN airing a preseason broadcast of MNF head-to-head against Raw on Monday.

WWE Raw saw an uptick in viewership last week with 2.473  million viewers with Monday Night Football right around the corner.

Roman Reigns def. Dolph Ziggler

Jerry Lawler made mention of the fact that he almost died at the hands of Dolph Ziggler’s elbow drop, but surely putting over Ziggler’s deadly elbows wasn’t the only reason he replaced Corey Graves on commentary, right?

It may have taken Dolph Ziggler well over a decade but boy has he ever figured out how to be a great heel.

The Fiend Attacks Jerry Lawler

Becky Lynch asked what Sasha Banks did during her vacation that made her such a hot commodity. It wasn’t anything she did during her vacation, it was the fact that she took a vacation in the first place that made her novel in an oversaturated WWE.

In a shocking development, Jerry Lawler attempted to run away from The Fiend, noting “I’ve seen this before,” which was shocking because it confirmed that Lawler actually watches the current product.

Jerry Lawler attempting to run away from The Fiend made this attack seem like even more of a horror movie. The referees waited until The Fiend was gone to come anywhere near Lawler. Smart refs.

The Miz and Ricochet def. Baron Corbin and Drew McIntyre

My Twitter timeline is flooded with anti-Baron Corbin tweets throughout this match. I forgot how hard it is for people to shut up about him, especially when he’s on TV. Don’t what that means, but welcome back, Barry!

Judging by this match, whoever wins King of the Ring has to beat Baron Corbin in the finals. He’s the only heel in this tournament who fans seem to truly despise, and I’m not sure that’s a bad thing.

Braun Strowman def. AJ Styles by Disqualification

WWE didn’t even try to pretend like Braun Strowman could possibly win the United States Championship as this match ended in a DQ, almost before it even started.

Apparently, Seth Rollins’ feud with Braun Strowman stems from how Strowman looked at Rollins’ Universal Championship. Seth Rollins might have more chemistry with a red belt than he…ahh, you know the rest.

Samoa Joe def. Cesaro—King of the Ring First-Round Matchup

There was no fooling anybody here. Neither of these otherwise great wrestlers was talented enough as villains to turn these people against them, so they just essentially threw uppercuts and strikes until it was time to go home.

Elias Performs in “Farewell Performance”

R-Truth and Elias went for about two minutes and it might be the longest WWE 24/7 Championship match in history.

Elias participating in a full-blown WWE 24/7 storyline confirms the man’s ceiling was realized months ago.

Rey Mysterio is above retiring in a backstage segment on Raw in August and it’s a shame his son was the only person who seemed to realize what injustice that would have been.

The New Day def. The Revival by Disqualification

Fans were on board for Randy Orton soling out free RKOs until he (kayfabe) broke Xavier Woods’ leg.

Randy Orton and The Revival already have more heat than Legacy ever did.

Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross vs. Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville

Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville out here, still trying to make “Fire and Desire” happen.

This match was sloppy, the crowd was disinterested and it mercifully ended before it had the chance to get any worse.

Cedric Alexander vs. Sami Zayn—King of the Ring First-Round Matchup

Michael Cole noted that King of the Ring was tailor-made for Cedric Alexander, and with a first-round win over Sami Zayn all but guaranteed, he ain’t lyin’.

I can’t remember the last time Sami Zayn won a match, but it’s beginning to feel like he will never win another WWE match again.

Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson—WWE Raw Tag Team Championships

A Braun Strowman heel turn appears to be the only logical ending to this match.

This is a matchup featuring the world champion and possibly his No. 1 Contender yet Michael Cole made sure to note that Braun Strowman once won the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships with a 10-year-old.
