Nick Kyrgios got the first breakthrough. John Isner got the next.
Now, we’re in a deciding third set, and, once again, the Australian is also in a battle with the Acapulco crowd.
A day after his dramatic comeback victory over 17-time Grand Slam winner Nadal, Kyrgios outlasted Wawrinka 7-5, 6-7 (3/7), 6-4 to book a meeting with John Isner for a place in the Mexican Open final, and we’ve had the type of match we’ve become used to seeing over the past few days.
Kyrgios got a late break to take the first set 7-5, before Isner did the same to win the second set 7-5.
Kyrgios has been in a love-hate relationship with the crowd all week, and this match was no different, with the 23-year-old motioning to them after his early break, before leading a Mexican wave midway through the second set.
