‘No evidence’ of shots fired at Northwestern graduate dorm

Police descended on a graduate dorm west of Northwestern University’s main campus in Evanston Wednesday for reports of shots fired, but authorities said they found “no evidence of a victim, scene or gunman.”

An alert went out to students and staff shortly before 2:30 p.m., warning them to stay away from the area of Emerson and Maple streets, where Engelhart Hall is located.

Shortly after 3 p.m., Evanston police said they found no trace of a shooting but continued to “search and secure the area.”

School spokesman Alan Cubbage said university officials had received a report of shots inside Engelhart Hall, which houses apartments for Northwestern graduate students and their families.

Northwestern University police said in a tweet that there was a “person with gun on Evanston campus. If on campus, seek shelter in safe place and stay until further notice. Others keep away.”
