The Husker men’s tennis team went 0-2 over the weekend, falling to Wichita State 1-4 on Friday and New Mexico 3-4 on Saturday. The Huskers are 9-3 on the season.
In doubles play on Friday, senior Linus Erhart and junior Toby Boyer defeated Wichita State’s Murkel Dellien and Marius Frosa 6-3. The Huskers were unable to win the doubles point, however, as Wichita State won the other two doubles matches to earn the point.
In singles play, Erhart was the only Husker to win as he defeated Miroslav Herzan 6-1, 6-1 to remain undefeated on the season.
On Saturday, the sophomore duo of Dylan Bednarczyk and Chris Dean defeated New Mexico’s Sean Baklini and Tim Buttner 6-4. However, New Mexico earned the doubles point as the Lobos won the other two matches.
In singles play, Boyer defeated New Mexico’s Ricky Hernandez-Tong 7-6, 7-6 to improve on his undefeated record in singles play. Erhart and Dean were the other Huskers to win their single matches as Erhart defeated Bart Van Leijsen 6-2, 6-4 and Dean beat Buttner 7-5, 6-2.
The Huskers return to action on Saturday, March 17, as they open Big Ten Conference play against Wisconsin in the Dillon Tennis Center. Action is set to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning.
