Nikola Katic’s close-range header gave the Scottish Premiership side the lead after 53 minutes.
But just as it looked like they had kept a clean sheet, Borna Barisic spoilt the party deep into injury time.
The Croatian defender became the first player to net against Steven Gerrard’s side, but they still managed to see out a 2-1 win on aggregate.
And following their success, video footage emerged of the Liverpool legend sharing his thoughts.
“We were excellent – the players gave me everything”
He said: “We were excellent – the players gave me everything.
“They deserve an awful lot of credit because they’ve beat a very good team, I think they will go on and win the Croatian league.
“It’s early days, but they absolutely ran over Hakdil Split at the weekend and they’re also contenders.
“We had some good chances in the game at important times and if we took one of them, the game would have been dead.
“We always knew that and they got a bit of luck with the breakthrough and deflection.
“But it’s nights like this where you stick together and show character, grit and determination and that builds team spirit – that will make us one.”
The clip was uploaded to Rangers’ YouTube channel, where it has racked up 27,000 hits already.
And fans were quick to share their thoughts.
“Listening to this man speak puts a smile on my face – he oozes class,” one fan revealed.
Another added: “I can’t describe my love for this man.”
A third claimed: “Steven Gerrard’s bringing Rangers back again.”
And a fourth even suggested: “We could make the quarter-finals with this mentality.”
Following the clash, video footage emerged of violent scenes that erupted outside Ibrox.
Police Scotland later confirmed two men had suffered stab wounds.
