Balzan were drawn against FK Kesla of Azerbaijan in the first qualifying round of the Europa League. The draws were made on Wednesday in Nyon.
The first leg will be played on 12 July with the return on 19 July.
Yesterday’s first qualifying round draw also meant that both Birkirkara and Gzira United now know their eventual opponents should they make it in the preliminary round.
Both Birkirkara and Gzira will face eastern european opponents if they make to the first round.
Birkirkara who will face KI Klaksvik of the Faroe Islands in the preliminary round, will face Lithuania’s Zalgiris Vilnius in the first qualifying round.
On their part Gzira United, who will be facing Andorra’s Sant Julia in the preliminary round, will face Serbia’s Radnicki Nis if they make it to the first qualifying round.
The first legs of the preliminary round matches will be played next week between the 26 and 28 June, with the return legs scheduled for the 5 July.
The matches of the first qualifying round of the Europa League will be played on 12 July with the return legs seven days later on 19 July.
On Tuesday, in the Champions League, local champions Valletta were drawn to face Albania’s Kukesi.
